Week 13 A Journey of Gratitude

My learning from the course concepts this week: I appreciated the reminder to have gratitude. President Monson suggested six things we might focus our gratitude on: mothers, fathers, teachers, friends, country, and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

It connected with some of the readings over this course that mentioned the importance of taking time to recognize and be grateful for blessings. Having gratitude as a practice helps with positive mental health, and is something that I need to focus on in my life a little more.

One theme that I took away from the various readings and videos was that it's important to do something that you enjoy, even though there may be aspects of it that you do not enjoy. In the case study of Randy Harkin, there were many aspects of entrepreneurship that he enjoyed as he opened his consulting firm - Interactive Minds, but there were some that he did not enjoy. I was surprised that one of the things he mentioned was loneliness in opening the business alone. If you are a social person or work better in a team environment where you have the ability to run ideas by others, I can see why it might be lonely to open a business alone. Additionally, without a partner in business, there wouldn't be anyone to share struggles and the sweetness of victory with. Those things could be shared with a spouse, but it wouldn't have the same impact unless they were an integral part of the business. He also went into great detail about choosing a business partner who had different strengths and weaknesses and recognized that he would likely spend more time with a business partner than his spouse! What a dream situation to work with a business partner who brought a different perspective and a different background to the table, who you respect professionally and enjoy collaborating with! What an absolute nightmare to work with a business partner who is unethical and isn't someone that you can enjoy being around, or don't trust their judgment or choices!

I appreciate the vision of being able to create a business atmosphere and culture by surrounding myself with people who are ethical, a joy to be around, and good at the things I struggle with.
