Week 14 Celebrate your Life

Whew! I did it! This course has given me the opportunity and tools for self-reflection, been a struggle for me, and caused me to stretch and grow and reframe the way that I look at some things. It has also validated some of the life decisions that I have made.

If you had one final lecture to share with a group of students on what you have learned from this course, what would you share?

It's ok if your sphere of influence isn't world-changing or life-altering or you don't care to develop a new technology that never existed before. It's ok to be content with a small, yet successful company, or a medium, yet successful company. It's ok to fail, and get up and try again, having learned lessons on the way. Look to make a difference in your sphere. Look to make a difference in your field, in your community, for your employees, and in your family. Create a work/life balance that you and your family are comfortable with and make it a top priority! If the purpose of your business is to create a life for you and your family, it doesn't do you much good to do it and lose your family in the process.

What would be your last bit of advice to someone wanting to begin the entrepreneur journey? What words of advice, direction, or caution would you give him or her if you had only one chance to give your own last lecture?

Be grateful for the blessings you have and the opportunities you have. Look for ways to give back- to the community, and aspiring entrepreneurs. Define boundaries and create routines and family traditions to help maintain/work-life balance. Find something that you enjoy doing (most of it anyway) and go for it! Surround yourself with people who share the same values and ethics but have different skills and gifts. Find one or two to be a mentor, who will guide you, and help you stick to your plan and ethics.

Don't be afraid to dream! Don't be afraid to think a little bigger! Check in with your higher power for help in discovering your path. Learn about the "hero's journey", and consider taking this journey yourself.

Define your ethical guardrails and guard them! Success isn't much if it lands you in jail!
